ORTHOTICS INFORMATION - Low Back Pain
Orthoses may play a great role in the treatment of chronic low back pain. Minimally, the are a very effective analgesic, relieving a major amount of symptom. At best, they function as an effective treatment. Precise planning and proper decision making will ensure that the orthosis is reducing a maximum amount of symptom. Proper orthosis selection, proper fit and proper wearing regimes are essential for the best outcome. Frequently, a canvass or elastic corset is tried, and upon failure to relieve enough symptom to make wearing worthwhile, orthotic treatment is completely abandoned altogether. The above mentioned study tells the story of many people who were previously in corsets that failed, had failed surgery, and had exhausted all other types of conservative treatments, yet succeeded to reduce most of their symptom in orthoses.
